We're up and running in Samoens and The Grand Massif with the full opening of The Grand Massif ski area today! We were at the front of the lift queue this morning, eager to check out the early season conditions and report back!
After the early snow during late November, a recent snow fall has set up the ski area perfectly for the coming holiday period. We received up to 20cm of fresh snow throughout the ski area and this has improved conditions significantly! As the sun shone this morning, on piste conditions are fantastic with the vast majority of pistes open and all links to Flaine, Morillon, Les Carroz and Samoens in operation. We found the best conditions on the upper slopes of Flaine and Samoens but the lower slopes were still good to very good.
For those of you who like to venture off piste, the snowpack is still very thin and although it looks inviting after the recent fresh snow there are still many rocks under the surface. The best conditions at the moment are definitely found on piste.
Looking to the week ahead, the forecasts are predicting fantastic sunny conditions until around Tuesday before more snow arrives in, potentially, large amounts! Fingers crossed!
Below are a few snaps from the opening day of The Grand Massif (today 21/12/13).
