The February holidays are here! If you're visiting us this February there is a good chance you've been drawn to the valley by skiing available in the Grand Massif. But if you fancy a bit of a change, an afternoon away from the pistes, or you have some non-skiers in your group, then we have good news. There is a lot more to the village of Samoens than skiing! There are a wealth of events and activities which can be enjoyed by skiers and non-skiers alike, that's one of the reasons the area has become such a firm family favourite.
Here's a taster of what's normally going on in the February / March holiday period.
Ice Hockey Matches every week
Les Givrés - Family obstacle course in Sixt Fer-a-Cheval
Feb - Samoens Carnival
Feb - Morillon & Verchaix Carnival
French Championship Open Water Swimming
Every Friday - Illuminated Fridays - End the week with music, torch parade, vin chaud and hot chocolate!
Every Wednesday (until 11/03) - Descend the Marvel ski piste on a sledge!
There are a vast array of non-ski activities available in winter, more than enough to keep even the most enthusiastic non-skier happy for many weeks! You can find a full list of these on our website, but in the meantime, here are a few activities with a difference.
Increasingly popular, fat bikes feature huge tires which offer massive grip on the snow and ice of winter. Various different outings can be customised to your level and interests, including heritage tours!
Hire a snowshoe guide who can help you explore our beautiful natural environment in winter. Without a doubt, one of our favourite non-ski activities is an evening exploring the forests under moonlight, followed by a delicious fondue in a hidden yurt!
Never heard of Ski Joëring? Originating in Scandinavia, it essentially involves being towed behind a horse on skis. Great fun and certainly a very different way to explore the area!
A snowshoe outing and yoga combined into one chilly outing! Experience 'cold yoga' techniques, originally developed by Tibetans in the Himalayas to develop body awareness, respiratory capacity and soothe the mind.
For more information on any of these events, visit the Tourist Office websites of Samoens and Morillon / Sixt-Fer-a-Cheval.
The best place to sample delicious local produce is the weekly markets of Samoens and Morillon which are a hive of activity in winter!
Samoens - Every Wednesday, 8am - 12pm
Morillon - Every Sunday 9am-12pm
Still not satisfied? Remember Samoens and Morillon are real villages packed full of history and charm, as well as fantastic restaurants, cafes, boulangeries and local shops for you to explore. We have mountain restaurants accessible by skiers and non-skiers alike. And lastly, you don't have to ski to enjoy some excellent apres-ski!
